Hi, I am Nick Saltmer. When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do, good at drawing in school I was gently pushed towards art college instead I followed my friends into an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. But, as at school my exercise books soon contained more sketches and cartoons than actually engineering work. I eventually found myself back at the steps of the Art college where I trained as a graphic designer. Over years of working in busy design studios I tended to be the one called upon for any quick last minute illustrations needed to fill a gap on a page here and there. When made redundant in 1992 I worked for the next five years as a freelance illustrator before setting up my own graphic design business. Painting and drawing has always been a place of solace for me. I paint things that appeal to me, something which might evoke a memory of a special place or loved one. I enjoy the challenge of creating an image in pencil or charcoal, ink, paint, pastel and hope it may provoke a feeling or connection for the viewer. I am always happy to take commissions on a range of subjects and mediums from portraits in water colours and oils, motorbikes in goache, bridges, country lanes and pets in pastels, oils, and pencil. Most of the paintings on this site are for sale as originals or as prints in various sizes and formats. If you would like one on your wall, please get in touch.
