Who?
Hi, I am Nick Saltmer. When I left school I had no idea what I wanted to do, good at drawing in school I was gently pushed towards art college instead I followed my friends into an apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker. But, as at school my exercise books soon contained more sketches and cartoons than actually engineering work. Over years of working in busy design studios I tended to be the one called upon for any quick last minute illustrations needed to fill a gap on a page here and there. When made redundant in 1992 I worked for the next five years as a freelance illustrator before setting up my own graphic design business. Painting and drawing have always been a place of calm and connection for me. I’m drawn to subjects that spark a memory—special places, people, or moments—and I enjoy exploring them through pencil, charcoal, ink, paint, or pastel. My hope is always that the finished piece resonates with the viewer in some way. I’m also happy to take on commissions in a variety of mediums, whether portraits in watercolour or oils, motorbikes in gouache, or scenes and animals in pastels, oils, or pencil. If you’d like to get in touch, I’d be delighted to hear from you. I am also represented by the Acorn Gallery in Pocklington and you will find some of my works there paintings are available to buy.
